The Keyhole State... 120-130 1967

When I changed the timing gear I did not take off the thrust plate of the spacer behind it so any suggestions or hints about what I need to look for would be much appreciated.

Jeff, ANY detectable wear on the thrust plate is unacceptable. The spacer ring on the nosr of the cam is supposed to be .003" thicker than the plate, and this is what sets the endplay for the cam. If either side of the plate wears at all, you have excessive endplay. If it's really excessive, the cam will knock back and forth in the block.

The spacer itself doesn't seem to wear, only the plate.
