I have a '91 Volvo 240 that has a new starter. The battery is new from last year. When the weather got cold it would not start without a boost, even after plugged in all night it would not start some of the time. I have to leave the ignition going, and keep my foot "off the gas" in order for it to start at all. That's right if I put my foot on the gas it dies instantly. My husband says I will ruin my starter if I keep doing this. The car shakes like crazy but catches if I keep the ignition turned. What could be wrong that I can fix at home. I hate to take it to a mechanic and get fleeced.
