Hello all,
I'm new to the board as well as to Volvos. I just bought a '79 245 DL at the local auction for $25. It has a straight body with just a few paint problems. Not a bad buy at all.
Ok, So I was driving it home from the auction down the freeway and all was good, except for that the gas pedal only had a very narrow place that produced any power or acceleration. So I was coming to a stop after exitting the freeway and she died at the stop light, and wouldn't restart.
So after getting it out of the road I headed for the gas station to top off that tank but that was not the issue. I then got the car home and started checking stuff out. I was assuming that I was not getting any fuel to the engine so I bought a new fuel filter because the old one looked older that me! With the filter off, tried turning the engine over to see if any fuel was flowing. I did not get any fuel. As a side note, I'm not sure if the you are supposed to be able to hear the fuel pump relay click closed or if you can hear the pump prime, but when I turn the key I hear nothing.
I also pulled the coil wire from the distibuter to check for spark I don't have any. I followed the Chilton manual to test the coil and the ballast and they both are just a little out of the spec range.
So my qestion is, Can, or does the spark and the fuel system take a crap at the same time? I have not checked the fuses yet, but that is where I'm headed next. And am I correct in understanding that the '79 245 does not have the 25 amp fuse near the battery?
I really like this car and want to get it up and running but I know nothing about them. I am a pretty good wrencher for the most part. I just have no knowledge about this rig. All your help will be of great help!
