Hey all,
1997 960
I have this weird problem with the electric system in the car. It started last week and I have tried a few things to fix it but nothing works.
What basically happens is while im driving, everyonce and a while I will here a click, like the whole system (warning lights, radio etc) reacts to the click, by going dead and back on, to the point where i have memorized my radio anti theft code! So at first I thought something must be shorting out, so I checked all the wires off the battery and alternator and everything seems to be intact.
So i brought the car to autozone and they tested the battery and alternator and said it was fine. So i was like, that sucks because now i dont know where the problem could be!
So, the other day i went to the grocery store, got back into the car, and it was like it had a dead battery, nothing but a click when i turned the key, like there wasnt enough power. I opened the hood and looked at the battery then figured id give it another try and i turned the key halfway and all the lights came on, so i gave it a second or two and the car started right up. Didnt think much of it...until today. Today i was in line waiting to get my emissions tested, and i was idlin for about 20 minutes in this line, then the car just died. I felt like a complete loser cause thats right when i got to the front of the line. So i was talking to the guy and we were about to push it to the side after i tried to start it 5 times, so i got out of the car to walk over and get someone to help me push it, as i got back into the car, i heard the ding ding ding when you leave your keys on so i tried to turn the car on, and it came on.
THen on my way home i stopped at the gas station, and when i got back in the car, the same thing, like it was dead. So i waited a while, nothing happened, was about to get someone to jump me, when it started up. So i am pretty sure it is something somewhere shorting out (since if it was a dead battery i am pretty sure that it wouldnt turn on so easily at complete randomness) i just know nothing really about electrical systems on cars to know where to start or what the problem could be.
Thanks
Tim
