shiftlock operation - what's in the circuit? 200 1993

Hey all,
Starting a week ago I have to depress the shiftlock release everytime to shift out of park. I removed and cleaned/adjusted neutral safety switch - no change. I am wondering what else is in the shiftlock "control loop". Should I be looking at the mechanism that is on the shifter. Can I disable it? The only thing I care about not happen is the starter turning when the car is in gear and the neutral safety switch controls that - right? Is there something that senses if my foot is on the brake (that is my guess)? The archives here are sparse on "shiftlock" or "shift-lock" or "shift lock", I've been trying difference combinations in my searches and stuff on the 700 series makes it seem the shift lock mechanism is different than on my 200.
Thanks,
Robb
