Hi Ken,

Were you asking once before how to make your one '93 work like the other one with regard to the shift lock? Forgive me please, if I'm mixing memories.

I think I had offered Rob Bareiss's experience as a source for the information on a 93, which I can't say I know anything about. Here is a response Rob made to me explaining the yellow part that prevents the release button from being depressed: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1096093.

You can see where I asked him for more information about this, but I guess he did not see the follow-up post.

The neutral safety switch is involved in gating the shift lock solenoid, but I agree that it is rarely responsible for its balky operation, because anyone attempting to get the shifter to move is undoubtedly wiggling and tugging on it anyway.
