'86 740 Bosch Ignition Prob

Using this forum, my Haynes manual and some experience with general, older ignition systems, I am trying to determine a logical diagnostic sequence to follow.

I replaced the failed Bosch coil with a generic. Engine started (no start with the OEM I took off and tested) but has an electrical skip. The skip is worse under initial acceleration and high idle. I have put the timing light on each plug wire and the coil wire and can observe the misfire. Though most of the firing sequence is okay, the skip (lack of spark seen via the light) is still rather regular. If I am reading things correctly, my distributor has the Hall Sensor within the distributor.

I have been redoing grounding points as I find them though I am not certain this is related. The tach drops off along with the skip.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed to find the culprit(s)?

Thanks,
Steve
