OK - I put a new water pump on in addition to a whole bunch of other parts.....developed a very slight leak just 2" behind the top of the pump where the head and block meet. Decided to replace the pump gaskets as opposed to the head gasket as my install was the likely culprit. Proved myself right a couple of times over.
First, I found I left the original gasket in the hole for the heater tube, and installed the new one. No leak, but looked kind of "not right"! I removed them both and put the new gasket in the hole. Just one this time.
Started it up and coolant is running out near the heater tube like a faucet. How should the gasket on this thing be installed? Does it go over the tube? After screwing it up the first time, I have little to go by. Haynes and Bentley are silent best I can tell.
Love to figure out a way to do this without pulling the pump again and investing in my third gasket set!
Thanks for the help!
