An update on my trying again to get a 4th gear working in my '94 944T.
I did a flush today with the Mobil 1, the old oil did look bad, followed the FAQ procedure and now have a nice rose color oil.
Again checked the wiring to the solenoid continuity measured fine, the indicator light works, the solenoid moves when power is supplied.
While up on the lift also changed the motor oil.
Now the bottom line, $100 and 5 hrs. later (Mobil 1 is expensive) the car still won't shift to 4th.
So one more time; why do I have wonderfull smooth shifts at the correct RPM & MPH for 1 thru 3 but can't get it to shift into 4th.
Does this solenoid move by itself based on some sensor or is it only switch driven if so where does the solenoid sit (position) when in 4th gear. Do you really need a switch. Why couldn't I glue/braze/weld the solenoid in the right position to have the correct flow thru openings/channels for 4th gear. I never pull a trailer and I don't have steep grades here so I really don't need to switch to 3rd on demand. I want 4th.
