Valve spring update? 200

I am replacing the valve springs, due to one breaking, in a 1979 242 B21F engine. I have seen several references to "spring update" in a lot of diffferent Volvo prats sites. The question is, since the 79 springs seem to be a bit larger than later model B230F's, are the new model springs the update that is being refered to or is there something I am missing. If the smaller later model springs are an update can I just replace my larger springs with the newer model ones? The smaller springs use a duel retainer, in other words, there is a retainer at the top and a retainer at the bottom of each smaller spring. So, if using the smaller spring, I would need to use the duel retiner method, would that not make the spring height different? It looks like the springs are the same height and if adding a second retainer it also seems it would make the compression of the spring require more pressure. Thanks for any help, it will greatly be appericated.. Max..:>)
