random dying----ECU? 200 1990

Greetings all-

It's been awhile since I have posted here, which I suppose is good news. My wife's 90 has an odd problem. She'll be driving along and suddenly the car stops working. Nothing else happens----it just stops. The only way to get it going again is to hop out and reset the ECU by pulling the firewall fuse. I drove her car a few times and it hadn't happened to me except for today in the middle of a busy intersection.

I wanted to see if the computer was spitting out codes, but it dies in places that does not allow one to check the codes---like in the middle of the intersection. Last week, I drove her car around, and let it idle in the driveway, hoping that it would die, but it never did. Everytime I check for codes, it says all is fine; 1-1-1.

The fuse holder and fuse was replaced last year; I put in a new wire with a water proof holder, and I feel that is a good connection there. This weekend, I poked around looking for a new connection, and even cleaned the area where the wires goes to the battery.

When it dies, there is no check engine light, no sign that it is ready to die---it just does.

Any thoughts?

Thanks-

Joe HC
