I've got two questions about my '86 240DL w/M46.
1) The overdrive works fine when the car is cold. Once engaged, it stays engaged for hours if I leave it on. After the car is all warmed up (say I've been driving on the freeway for an hour) and I turn the overdrive off, it won't turn back on. It is more prominent now that the weather is warmer. Is this a solenoid issue? I pray the internals aren't failing again.
2) When slowing down from speed, there is a massive shudder from the back of the car between 25 and 20 mph (40 and 30kph). This just started. I'm thinking it can't be brakes, because they'd shudder all the time. A failing diff would make terrible noises, and wheel bearings usually whine....my thoughts then fall to driveline. Does this sound likely to anyone else? I guess I'll get under there later today, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has any genius ideas.
thanks, as always,
Nate Gundy
