A/C Modification 1800 1971

My old York A/C died and I've heard that people have converted to a Rotary engine unit, not positive on the brand(Sanyo?). My very experienced Volvo mechanic says the York is just as good. Would like some feedback on Pros & Cons of conversion. I know the Rotary unit requires a different mounting bracket which is sold by one of our members in VSA/VCOA but I don't know which brand and model to buy. Biggest questions are does it use non-CFC refrigerant and how well does it perform? I'm in Arizona and need all the help I can get.
