ANSWER A/C Modification 1800 1971

There are a couple of different rotary compressors (actually swash plate design) that will work nicely. When I changed over to R134a in my 72 ES I elected to use a Sanden SD-7 designed for R-134a. The seals used must be compatible with the refridgerant used, and the seals are different for R-12 and R-134a. Also the lubricant used in a R-12 compressor is not compatible with R-134a. So while a rotary comp designed for R-12 will definetly run with R-134a, it will not run indefinitely...to coin a phrase. I also used the York mount along with a Red Dot conversion bracket.
