94 945 B230 NA 280K. Was running fine on the interstate around 70mph, took the exit and stopped at a traffic light. While idling, engine suddenly quit and would not restart. Pushed it out of the road into the Burger King parking lot, where I left it to think about its transgressions. Will go back late evening after traffic clears to tow it home.
First thought is ignition module. All dash lights come on when turning the key, and the engine turns over. Just won't fire. Second thought is crank position sensor.
When I've experienced ignition module failures in other cars, they sometimes will crank again after cooling off. So the car may start up when I go to get it later.
What simple diagnostics can I perform when I go to get the car? I have a timing light. Can I determine if I'm getting fire to the plug based on using the timing light, without having to remove a spark plug? If I'm not getting fire, what can I do to rule out either the crank position sensor or ignition module? And is it possible these symptoms could be caused by a fuel problem instead of an ignition problem?
Thanks for all suggestions and advice.
