561 ecu from 240 work in a 740? (same year, both LH2.4) 700 1992

hi,
i am trying to help a friend with a 92 740 debug some issues. i have a 92 240 and have a working spare 561 ecu laying around i wanted to swap into his car to rule out his ecu being bad. both cars have the LH2.4 FI system. both cars have the 016 AMM and just about every other part seems identical. for logistical reasons he hasn't been able to verify what ECU is in his 740. looking at a chart i saw elsewhere there was only one ECU listed for a 1992 non-turbo B230F, and it wasn't the 561. the only thing that concerns me is that his has an EGR valve on it (CA car).
