A little progress 140-160 1968

Photobucket

Well the warm weather is here and been slowly edging into fixing it up. The motor is running STRONG, and is breathing better with fresh correct 3 hole filters. A new gasket for the valve cover slowed down some of the oil rust prevention. Since it had sat for 2 years before I got it, first thing I did was dump the oil and throw in some high mileage oil, Mann filter, and magnetic fill plug. 600 miles (and 7 months) later I just changed it, pretty grungy but other than sludge on the magnet, no metal chunks. Just using non detergent 30 weight straight oil for the summer, on startup after change the motor sounded much better, have to wait and see how it drives. Plans today are for changing gearbox fluid (if I can find the fill plug :D ) and continue poking at the body. As you can see from the picture, I trimmed the bottom flange on the pan, it was mangled beyond repair so a quick grinder trim fixed things up letting me actually pound out the dents from a PO deer slaying. There is TONS of poorly done bondo that I've been knocking out. I don't mind bondo for some stuff but I prefer using metal polymer instead (works great on the jeeps I usually work on). Happily awaiting a turn signal so I can take it cruising this upcoming weekend. Hope everyone else is having a productive spring!

And yes, I do need the upper chrome piece missing for the grill/hood if anyone has one, and fender/4 door trim too.

Here's a little video of driving it before the oil change:
