Howdy, I'm new here. My Chevy did me a favor and died last week...no idea what happened, don't care, it's dead. Aware that I needed a vehicle my brother told me about one. "I think it's a Volvo, dunno, I wasn't really interested." '89 240 (gas) 4 dr, solid all around, 87k mi., $200.00... After a quick look at the car and a friendly chat with the owner's dad I dropped the cash and got to work. Stole the battery from my Lumina and following a couple rough starts the Volvo purrs like a kitten with a small hole in her muffler. Now, if I put 'normal' pressure on the gas pedal the engine dogs out and dies. If I give it very light pressure and gradually build it'll pick up fine. BUT, when I get up in rpms (a bit above the revs a 'normal' driver would reach) it skips. Kind of a sputter, always in the same spot. I can't put it in gear without it dying out. I'm very mechanically inclined, so I can handle the work. I'd like to get right to the source as soon as possible as I need to be rolling. Almost forgot, the fuel relay had gone and the seller had tapped into it and installed a switch. Said he didn't know how to replace the relay...??? Whatever. I've picked up some Bosch Platinums 'cause why not? I never encountered any of this with my '85 240 and I realize it could be alot of things so I'll take any advice I can get and probably follow the cheapest first. Thanks in advance, Nathaniel Nicholson.
