Praying its not the Heater Core.... 900

Hi All
I have noticed the last couple days the smell of coolant in the cabin of my 92 940 when the car heats up and I turn on the defrost. And more fogging of the windows than usual, actually I noticed the rear window fogging and I remember putting the rear defrost on and thinking it was odd to need to defrost the rear window 15 minutes into the drive. I did a quick search just now and am feeling rather ill at the thought of digging into such a project. Now before I get all worked up, I did replace both heater hoses(and valve) this spring and am hoping that I simply need to retighten the clamps(A/F trickling down into firewall)...PLEASE!! But I also recolllect that the brass/copper inlets that go thru the firewall appeared somewhat out of round/deformed when I removed the old heater hoses. My question is should I just tighten the clamps or should I loosen them and rotate them slighty before tightening in an effort to
"re-form" them? Or should I try removing the hoses and using a round brass punch inserted in the inlets to restore the roundness before re-installing the clamps?...Grasping at straws here...
Matt
