Reusing an O2 sensor 200

I'm replacing the whole exhaust system Cat. to back and reusing a good O2 senor which I had to "whack the wrench" to get out. I see it is carboned up so looking for advise on maybe brushing off the loose carbon deposits. Could I screw it up?
