I picked up my first Amazon, and first vintage Volvo, this afternoon and drove it home. The car is a '67 with ~80k on the clock. Got plenty of smiles, thumbs up, and questions whenever I stopped.
The trip was ~150 miles, and for a car that has probably only seen that much on an annual basis in recent years, it did pretty well. Seemed to keep up with traffic just fine on the highway. It's not without it's issues, but I more or less figured that when I jumped in the pool.
It seems to run on the hot side of the temp gauge. Nearly at the top of the third green segment when cruising on the highway. Creeps up into the right-hand white segment if I don't give it some RPM's when in stop and go situations. What is "normal" for these cars? Center of the gauge?
Steering feels like there is a deadspot in the middle, but steers quite nicely when you are holding a line.
I can smell the brakes running hot when I stop for fuel. They seem to function alright (just hot) but I think that might be due to seeing such little use in its recent past.
I don't think the tail lights work, or the license plate lighting. Good thing I made it home just before dark. Headlights and indicators work as they should (minus the foot dipper, which seems to be stuck). Is there suppose to be any instrument illumination . . . because I dont have any!
Anyways, I appreciate any input on the above issues, and I'm sure I will find (many) more. It's such a relief to be home safe after getting on a bus at 10 am this morning, transferring twice, and getting the car home!
