Regarding the timing . . . this is an entirely new arena to me. I'm of an age and generation where I spent my high school years adjusting fuel maps and ignition timing on a laptop in the passenger seat of a Honda. I have about half the OBDI engine diagnostic codes memorized, but am at the point on this car where I can just barely point to things and say "fuel pump", "coil".

I've downloaded what is available of the "green books" online, and was planning on purchasing the Haynes manual (is this a waste?). I've seen a book floating around out there specifically dedicated to the SU carbs, which seems like it might be a wise investment.
