Compression Testing procedures

Guys, please help me clarify exactly how to do compression testing. My car is a '91 740, B230F. I'll be using a manual gauge, the screw in type.

The faq says to disconnect the ground terminal at the coil. This is what I'm most concerned about. So, to be sure, you just disconnect the ground wire (can't remember what colour it is) and that's it? This won't hurt the ECU or the ignition amplifier or anything? I guess since the coil will not then get any voltage, you don't then have to worry about grouding the spark plugs/wires then either, right?

Thanks. I just need to be absolutely sure of this.

Then I can go ahead and get someone to crank it over for me while I watch the gauge. I've never done this before, so thanks for any and all tips. Yes, I know the engine is supposed to be at or around operating tempeature.
