permanently disabling SRS 200 1993

For reasons that are neither here nor there, I don't want to get my face smashed in by the airbag should there ever be an accident in my car. To that end, I want to disable the airbag in my 1993 240 (manufacture date 9/92.)

I have two potential strategies here, please help me out of you think either will do me any good:

1. Remove the fuse for the SRS unit (there is one, isn't there?) and if necessary also remove the dashboard warning light (will it come on if there is no SRS fuse in place?)

2. Disconnect the connector for the clockspring so the airbag will be unable to deploy even if the computer sends a signal to blow my face up. I'm leaning towards the first option as it's easier to undo if necessary and requires less disassembly.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm of the opinion that these are just federally-mandated deathtraps and think that the 3 point seat belt should take care of me. If I'm in 1 1/2 tons of steel hurtling towards an obstacle, burns and toxic gas aren't gonna do anything anyway. We did just fine for eighty years without them. And yes, I fully understand the "risks" of not having a dangerous explosive device mounted in front of my chest. This is a personal choice I am making.
