OBD I code 2-4-1 EGR 700

I pulled the codes on my 1990 740 turbo today. The fuel system showed that the system is working fine. However, socket no 6 (igntion) gave me a 2-4-1. I did a little research and came up with "EGR system flow too low." The possible causes are the following: faulty wiring, EGR, EGR Vacuum, or controller; EGR temp sensor. The symptom is poor idle. Honestly, the idle seems fine to me -- maybe a little low.

First, I did not even know this car had an ERG. It is probably under the intake manifold next to the PCV system. ARG!

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is or have you done the job before? I was looking on line and they want $229 for that part.

The check engine light has been coming on and off every few days.

I think if I have to pull the intake I am going to replace all the vac lines and replace the PCV. Maybe even have the intake cleaned at the machine shop and have my injectors done professionally.

Anyone got any thoughts on any of this.

Thanks, Chris
