Dear Brickboard,
My 1989 Volvo 240 DL sedan with 170 miles is nearing the end.
The front driver’s side control arm is rusted through near the back by the round flange. It will still drive but its creaking badly when I apply the brakes and it clunks when I hit a bump. I can see the control arm flex in the problem area when I have a helper drive the car up against a 2x4.
I want to repair it while my wife wants me to junk it.
Have any of you replaced the control arm? Can I get away with reusing the old bushings? Should I give up on the car or should I save her one more time? Please advise. Thanks.
