All,
Mighty confused here guys. The new rebuilt rack comes with the splined shaft at 180 degress from where the bottom aluminum splined reciever hole wants it to be. The rack is roughly centered, measuring both sides both boots are roughly 7 1/4 inch so I believe it to be centered. The splined shaft has a flat spot so it has to go one way with the flat spot right at the split in the aluminum block. The steering wheel is blocked and clamped at dead center so it doesn't make sense. If I move up to the upper aluminum u, it is bolted and indexed to only go on in one position (a little tab on the shaft slides into a slot on the block. If I rotate the shaft on the rack with a pair of pliers to where it would need to be to mate up with the bottom U, then the position of the tie rods tells me it's turning left. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? There is of course another place at the top of the shaft with U's but I assume they are indexed as well. I could grind the lower U bolt down to have a flat that way I put it in anyway I need to ("ghetto"?) but there goes the safety. There is a cotter pin hole at the end of the bolt so that's a little help in the safety department. Any input appreciated.
