Windshield wiper frustration because I have made it worse.

I followed a post from the archives about cleaning the copper tab and the cover where it makes the contact in order to fix the wiper motor. Right off the bat -success because the wiper blades went to the park position. (This was my original problem in that blades would simply stop on the windshield when I would turn the wipers off at the stalk.)

I turned the wipers on again to verify the fix and it was back to the original problem. The blades simply stopped on the windshield and did not go back to park. I went back and cleaned the contacts again with same result. I repeated the same proceedure and this time no wiper blade movement what so ever. Being persistent, I went back to try another cleaning and also sprayed the plug that goes into the motor with electrical contact cleaner and waited for 5 minutes for it to dry, reconnected it, tried the wiper motor again and blew the #2 fuse. So I guessed that the ground in the motor was bad. Took the cover completely off the motor and made sure the red and black wire were not touching and put it all back together. Turned the key and bam #2 fuse is blown. All I have to do is turn the key without even the wiper motor turned on and the fuse blows.

Is the motor itself the problem or could it be anything else? Sorry for the long post.
