windshield removal/replacement 120-130

following up on the earlier post about windshields, i've got a bit of corrosion at the outside corners of the rear glass and below the outside corners of the front. my mechanic, a sage swedish gentleman, said that if i wanted to get that rust dealt with, i should take the glass out, take the car to a body shop to get the rust dealt with, and then put the glass back in with new rubber seals. but he said though that getting windshields out and back in is somehow a tricky business, that the glass can break, and so on. along those lines, what are your thoughts on the issue? how complicated is it to remove/replace a 122 windshield. is it something that a fairly handy person can do with the right tools, or is it better left to a windshield shop? is there something in particular about 122 that makes it a dicey proposition? would your run of the mill windshield shop have difficulty removing/replacing 122 glass?

thanks again,
f.r
