DIY Wiring Harness

Has anyone ever tried to make their own engine wiring harness? It seems like the routing could be altered to run across the firewall and down the fender, apposed to underneath the block with exposure to road and oil grime.

If you have made your own, or know of anyone who has, let me know. I might give it a try. It seems like there would be a market out there for good aftermarket (homemade) harnesses.
