driveshaft 'clocking' 200 1989

Just how does one "clock" or "phase" a driveshaft to eliminate possible vibration?
I hear there is supposed to be a faint arrow and a yellow dot of paint on it (the driveshaft) which makes it easier to see. Is there a machine that checks this and how do you "fix it" if it is out of phase, or do you just have to replace if it is "messed up" any?
