M47 conversion, flywheel with no tone ring, is this required? 200 1992

I'm in the midst of a M47 conversion on my friend's 92 240. We removed the auto fly wheel only to discover the tone ring for what I'm guessing is the RPM sensor. The M47 replacement flywheel has no such ring, so I'm thinking it was a pre-89 tranny.

Is there any way to boot strap this on a 92? Is it required to run the car?
