Howdy all. 1984 244 dl. Just replaced fuel filter and pump (pump's internal armature shaft seal failed and it was leaking at its crimp). The pump is out of a 940 turbo, with a different part number.
I have spark and the fuel pumps run. Jumpering fuses 4 and 6 makes no difference. I will check fuses 1, 12, and 13 as well, and may just replace all of them again.
I will go out and splice in the waterproof fuse holder and replace that 25 amp underhood fuse.
It starts with starting fluid, and has started without it a few times, but only ran for 10-30 seconds each time. With starting fluid, I could rev the engine up to 2000-3000 rpm no problem. Without the starting fluid, the car would die if I cracked the throttle.
Is this fuel starvation? Might the junkyard pump be... junk?
The car would do the no-start before I replaced the pump, but I thought I had solved it by replacing the fuel pump relays. Before replacing the pump, it did NOT die when giving it throttle.
