blower motor hellaciousness stories on late 240s- why? 200

hi sages- just read through the blower motor/ resistor/ switch replacement threads. sounds almost as hellacious as audie murphys to hell and back. certainly the worst job on a 240, a full 5 F + assault. $850 and 6- 8 hours?. have worked on many tanks since 63 mostly american and believe me some jobs were tough. have only one question for the smartest of you whose fraternity i hope to join one day. why and how was it ever designed this way??? heres my take: it was done like this intentionally to create a lucrative high profit repair business for dealers to blindside customers. or no thought was initially put into it and it was put together at the last minute of design. one curious fact is that the 740 which was contemporary to the later 240s, was not designed like this and actually is an easy 1 hour job according to other threads . am i right on the money or a day late and a dollar short(actually 850 dollars)? thanks tons oldduke
