Periodically, my 1993 Volvo 940 has a variation in engine rpms at idle from 650 to about 900 rpms only for a very few seconds. The car runs smooth at speed. This only occurs at idle/in traffic and only periodically. Has anyone experienced a similar effect?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
