Strut Problem 700 1988

I have a 1988 760 Turbo Sedan. Yesterday, the front right strut started making a knocking noise. When I push down on the car, it makes knocks at the top of the strut as if it were loose. I tried tightening the bolt but did not help. Do I need to replace the strut or is the problem something else?
