Diagnostic Socket Question 200 89

I am getting an okay signal for everything on my car. But the # 2 socket does not go thru the clear-erase-memory of all codes procedure. The second part of the clear all codes does not light up after holding the button down for five seconds. The other sockets will go thru the clear all codes, even after getting a no codes reading of 1-1-1. My Bentley manual says if the sockets fails to perform any part of the test, then test the diagnostic socket. I did. sometimes I get a vlotage and sometimes I do not for #2. Bruce
