Hey all!!
Okay....within the past few months, I have had the urge to purchase a third car. While I definately want another Volvo, I'm leaning towards a wagon. The only way I'm going to be able to pull this off, however, is if it does not send my insurance rates through the roof (as it is, here in NJ, I'm paying $700 a year for both Volvos combined). But that's aside the point. Here's my question....
Someone is selling a 1981 Volvo GLT wagon (non-turbo). The car has over 230K on it. He replaced the shocks and the radio. As far as I know, all the power accessories work. Don't know about the a/c, but it's not too big of a deal. No rust, but the paint is faded in places, and the hood was replaced. Asking price is $400.00
Now, before you all start teliing me to stop pondering, and grab it, here's the problem....the car needs a new tranny. I don't know if it worth replacing the tranny on an 81' with over 200k on it. It IS an automatic, and since I cannot drive a stick, replacing the setup with a stick won't work too well. Is this going to be a horrendously expensive fix? How much should it cost me to get a junkyard tranny and have someone put it in? Is it even worth doing?
Thanks!
