The pre 84.5 turbos are very good cars. The aren't intercooled and they were
engineered for the power they produce. So, if you buy an older non intercooled
car and add the I/C then your clutch will eventually need to be upgraded if you
turn up the boost. If it's an auto then you would want to perform the changes
that Volvo made for the automatic to be stronger. They all suffer from the wiring harness degrading and every turbo I've worked on that was eventually
replaced. We had a stick non I/C 82 wagon for about 8 years and it was a very
reliable fun car to drive.

The GL and the GLT meant that you got all the luxury stuff from the GL with the blacked out trim. It also meant that you got the suspension upgrades and the five spoke alloys. So, you could consider it a luxury sport touring model.
