I'm a NOVICE mechanic. I can follow detailed instructions perfectly. My questions are:
What is the EASIEST way to check my spark plugs for a spark?
I've noticed that some Volvo owners state that they can hear the fuel pump when you initially turn the ignition. What am I listen for?
Where do you look to see if the engine is getting fuel?
The problem: My engine cranks but won't start (fire up). I have gas, replaced dist. cap & rotor, replaced fuses (inside car & near coil), starter is okay (she cranks), belts (tight), and battery(new).
Prior to it not starting, when driving sometimes it would not always shift immediately into 3rd or 4th gear. It would sometimes take awhile before it would shift to the next gear (running hard in lower gears). I had a tune-up (new plugs & dist cap. & rotor) in Feb 2002.
Could the problem be spark plugs? fuel pump? All suggestions would be appreciated. And remember, I'm a NOVICE..
Thanks
