Another no start, and/or sudden engine failure 1986, 740

Just looking for some confirmation with my 1986 740. Had a couple of sudden engine failures while driving and then car started after 10 - 15 minutes. Also a couple of no starts, come back next day and starts. Yesterday had both problems and finally, gave up the ghost.

Stranded in country (I know, dumb move instead of returning home) so don't have here to test. Before I get a 40 mile tow, I may drive out to it and try a few things. Looking for advice before I do so.

First, I resoldered all the relays about 45 days ago.

Secondly, I am suspecting fuel pump is OK since runs great, when running.

Third, I can find no loose or frayed wires or corroded connectors.

Fourth, my fuel pump fuses are OK and clean

Fifth, I can hear my F1 relay click (have cover off to verify) with key to right

The questions:

1. After the F1 click, should I hear the cold start buzzing? I don't.

2. I cannot find my book (Haynes is not a big help for this anyway), does this model have sensor at the bell housing or in the distributor?

3. Would the hall effect or rpm sensor (which ever I have) be a good place to start looking? With 200,000 miles I was thinking of replacing it (and distributor cap if applicable) before getting a tow.

Thanks for any help
