Yes, it's in the distributor and it is a VERY common point of failure.
The hall sensor itself doesn't go bad- the connector on the bottom of the distributor does. If you can find a used one, in decent shape, you should bring that with you. It's easy to change out the whole distributor- you may well find that the connector is completely falling apart. Be very careful with the wiring harness in this area. The plug angles to the driver's (left) side of the vehicle. Squeeze the harness plug to disengage- spring loaded wire keeps it connected.
Also be certain your fuel pump relay is fully seated in the fuse box. Bring a spare?
