I previously posted about getting a car alarm. I've looked and looked and have narrowed my search between the Crime Guard 850i3, the Crimestopper 2015FM2, and the Autopager RS-750lcd. My question regarding removing the key is for the remote start that all these alarms have. In order to ensure that the remote start doesn't try to activate with the manual transmission in gear, the alarm wants you to get out of the car with the engine running, then it will turn the engine off itself, knowing that you had to leave the car in neutral to get out. Some cars will allow you to remove the key with the engine (our 94 suburban, and 62 corvair) but the volvo's that we have will not. Is there any way to modify the ignition/ or otherwise get the remote start feature to work in the way it was designed? (ie, i could pretend I have an automatic and I'd just have to be SURE my car is left in neutral when I park.)
Does anyone have an opinion about these alarms? The Crimestopper and Autopager both have lcd transmitter/receivers with car status display (including time, and temperature oooh, neato). The Crime Guard seems to be a little more down to earth. From what I can tell, the Crime Guard might actually be a better rounded system with more programmable features that could be useful. Like current drop sensing, and a 9 volt batt backup, both useful if someone is trying to disconnect the battery to render the system off. It will also automatically lock and arm the car when someone closes the door. The price for the Crime Guard is about 135 and the other two are 200. The only difference in cost seems to be the temp sensors that display on the lcd's and the lcd displays themselves. All of the alarms have lcd's, none of them have internal sirens.
Thanks for any input,
Nathan
