Front door speaker replacement 700 1990

Hi,

I want to replace the front door speakers in my '90 740. The current factory ones are 6 and 1/2", I believe. But the factory speakers have oval-ish metal rings and the speaker grille just fits over it, while all the other 6 and 1/2" aftermarket speakers have round metal rings, which means the speaker grille won't fit back on. I know I can get it to work one way or another, but I'm hoping to do this with minimal cutting & drilling... preferably none. Something that just drops in and fits would be ideal.

Has anyone out there successfully replaced the front speakers with aftermarket 6 and 1/2" in their '89 and later 740 / 940? If so what brand(s) did you go with? How did you get it to fit? What modifications are necessary?
