Alternator Problems 200

Whenever I start my car it has a really high pitch squeel. It will continue for a few seconds and then stop. During normal driving, it is quiet. But, when I turn on all of my lights or switch on the heater fan it comes back. I'm guessing that it is a problem with the alternator, but I can't be too sure. Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions where to start looking?
