I bought an 82 242 because the body was in great shape. the owner tells me the rack is needing repair because it only works one was and squeals and turns all the way to the left which it does. He also tells me the rubber seals on the head are gone so it uses oil most noticable when you start it up. He idicates it uses about a litre ever 1500 km (or 1 qt every 1000 miles). I then bought a 1980 gt for parts. The owner knows little about it but felt the motor is good. I bought it because it had great tires and rims and the car was thrown in. I am thinking about swapping the rack and the engine. The 82 has a carb on it and the 80 has fuel injection. Any thoughts of what problems I may run into or should be aware of when I swap parts?
I have a full car for parts which is the bonus. I happen to have an extra motor(also uses oil) tanny, started overdrive sitting in my shed. It too has the fuel injection system on it. That I picked up free from a person cleaning out his garage.
Look forward to your thoughts
