I know I’ve asked this question before but I am still having the problem and would desperately like to solve it. Here is my problem: My 1800ES seems to run correct at idle, it’s a little ruff but it has nearly 160000 miles on it. Anyway, when the engine is revved up to about 3000 rpm it starts to revve erratically, dropping down to 2000 rpm and climbing above 3000 rpm. Keep in mind that this with the pedal firmly planted on the floor and the transmission correctly geared. From this point with the engine jumping up an down in rpm I can not get it to climb an higher. There has been only one occasion were the engine has revved freely, immediately after I adjusted the valve gap the engine ran perfectly all the way up to redline unfortunately this only lasted a few minutes. In my previous posting some people suggested that I should replace the lobes or possibly even the came shaft, is it possible the check the camshaft or cam lobe visually, maybe by removing the camshaft? How do I remove the camshaft?
