I recently stumbled upon a 1975 911S, 1974 actually according to the sticker on the door jam, that was billed by it's owner as nearly perfect. It had an overhauled engine and transmission, various upgrades and a really good paint job. I drove it and it was so cool. I was going to buy it but I decided to have a pre purchase inspection done by a qualified shop. I found the local Porsche club's website and asked for a reference. I took the car in on Monday morning. I had done a quick inspection myself and wrote up my results which I gave them.
They did the inspection, including a leak down test. They told me cylinder 1 spark plug appeared to be cross threaded and they would not try to remove it. This plug is the front forward left cylinder. There is NO room to work on it and the engine would have to come out. That caused me to cancel the deal. It would have been fun to own the car and I would have bought it if the plug were not cross threaded.
A valuable lesson.
