Does anyone have pictures or an exploded view of the 1988 245 DL wagon's hand brake system? I had a local garage (not a volvo house unfortunately) replace the rear brakes. I asked them to replace the hand brake shoes while they had it apart. They then told me that I needed new cables, so I said OK. Now, they can't adjust the hand brake. It looks like the cables are way too long (about an inch). The cables seem to be hooked up correctly, but my Hayes manual does not provide enough detail for me to be sure about that. Also, I verified that there are no star wheel adjusters in the drums. The Hayes manual says some cars did not have them.


1. Can the new cables be too long (I think they got them from a Volvo dealer. Does anyone know if the cables on the 1987 and 1988 models are different? When I priced replaccing the radio antenna, the dealer said that the pillar mounted antenna that I have was last used in 1987 and that in 1988, the antenna was mounted on the left rear of the car. The VIN says it is a 1988, go figure.)

2. Has anyone experienced out-of-tollerance drums on aftermarket rotors?

3. Does anyone have a trick that might be used to take up the slack in the cables?
