Distributor shaft oil 140-160 1974

Just changed rotor, points etc. Checking with the manual, it seems there should be a small round felt pad in the cavity on top of the distributor shaft, underneath the rotor. This felt pad should be oiled every 6,000 miles. I don't have this felt thingy and don't know what oil to use either. I smeared some bearing grease where the points rest on the shaft. Is there a "revised" procedure for lubricating the shaft or should I do it per the manual? If so, does anyone know where to get the oil?
